Saloon vs Touring. Worth swapping?

I'll set the scene: I have a 2000 530D Sport saloon, wife, a 2 year old & a 4 week old & a Graco travel system.
The said system is great, but the puschair when folded is a right PITA to get in & out of the boot due to the woefull opening size/entrance of said boot.
My wife has expressed an interest in swapping the saloon for the touring to ease her life. I'm concerned at this & have suggested getting a slimmer folding travel system instead of losing £XXX on the car, but am willing to look into it for her piece of mind.
Questions are. Handling. Much worse? Expense. Do they comand a premium over the saloon? Noise & stereo. How much worse? And anything else that I'm missing.
