Hello everyone in BMW world! Ive just got myself a e30 318i 2dr with the M40 (hydraulic tappet) engine to replace my SD1 2600.

I've given it the obvious check overs you do buying any car; but are there any bits and pieces I should check that are peculiar to the 318?

The car currently has the 14in steel wheels, and Korean condom remoulds, I'm looking to put some 15in BMW alloys on. What are the prefered tyres for e30's? What other sensible, modest upgrades are there, I'm not looking to chav up the car, but, for example the suspension seems to be very soft, what is the prefered route to stiffen this up.

I've found bmwe30.net so will be looking round there too, are there any other websites I should check?

Many thanks in advance
Regards
Iain

www.e30zone.co.uk has the most knowledge.
As for wheels, keep it OEM with crossspokes found on late 80s 325 sports and 318is.

Thanks for the replies so far. I've signed up to E30 Zone, thanks for the heads up. I was planning on keeping it on BMW alloys, theres a couple of 15" sets on eBay atm, what profile tyre do this run ideally, I notice on set of alloys has 2x 195/50/15 and 2x 195/50/15's fitted.

I believe the cambelt was changed recently, there's a recent receipt for quite a bit of head work, but i'll take the cover off and check.

Iain
