Need to get one fitted sharpish, but dealer want £1300 FFS !!!

Have got independant quotes ITRO £500, but worried about any warranty issues, as there
is a lot of electrics involved. And i think there is a new Euro standard
13 pin plug just come in ?

Anyone know anywhere in the BUCKS/Northants/Beds area that's good ???

Cheers

Glenn.

Glenn you can buy the BMW OEM item and fit it yourself. I seem to remember that it costs around £750 from the dealer. All you need is an able helper.

Not a clever thing to say to someone who uses his GT3 roof as a stepladder

Is the reason to fit the BMW item the DSC towing trickery, also i presume it turns of the reverse parkign sensors?

ie is worth the extra cash to fit the BMW item?!

Not just for the obvious electics, but the X5 has a 'Trailer Stability Control' program as part of the DSC capability and this apparently is a big help particularly when towing something heavy. Much of the BMW tow bar is formed by a big Y-shaped cross brace which anchors the tow bar to the key chassis frame points and enables it to pull the kind of trailer-weight BMW quote. I never used mine when I had it on my last X5, but it seemed a seriously over-engineered piece of kit.

My dad was quoted £1300 by the stealer for a towbar on his 330D, but managed to get a BMW towbar from www.towequipe.co.uk/ for £230, and the electrics including DSC and PDC interfaces from BMW for £100.

He is pretty handy so plans to fit it himself, but any local indy could probably do it in a day.
