Alpina D3 is a clear rip-off of the AntandPete D3.

From recollection, the Alpina is a tuned 2l diesel, where as Ant's is a E46 330d taken up to 300bhp and, at last count, 8 kagillion Nm of torque.

There is no way the Alpina D3 can be descibed as a "Rip-Off" of a car modified by a couple of guys who tune cars.

Alpina are a manufacturer in their own right.

I can hardly believe that such a comparison/comment has even been made !!

Come on Gimlet it's just a little joke. Anyway the Z4M guys clearly stole their ideas from Alpina's Roadster S - you should know.

I think the D3's going to be a bargain. Perhaps not the quickest car for £25 but certainly one of the most desirable.

Two guys create a highly tuned diesel BMW 3 series for the gumball3000, and gain cult following after they name it d3 as a cheeky swipe at an M3.

The car is so good it features in multiple Gumballs, is covered by specialist BMW magazines, and has no direct rival in it's sector.

About 2 years later a specialist BMW tuner (industry) creates a *new* tuned diesel 3 series BMW and tries to come up with a name for their M3 rivalling car. hmmmmmmmmmm

Alpina D3 NOT a rip-off? Don't make me laugh, I see it as a respectful nod to AntandPete, as well as being a rip-off. But they don't mind, we talked about it on their forums.

Keeping it lighthearted, Will.
