I have a rattle at the rear of my E39 525 Touring which is definately inside the cabin.

Load cover seems fine and I can't get anything to shift by hand - it only happens over certain bumps and it's driving me crazy!

Any ideas?

Are you sure its coming from inside??

I had a similar problem turned out to be a broken engine mounting (rear)

Engine mounting eh?

It does sound internal but I'll definately check that out. Thanks.

father had a e39 528i. siumilar problem with the knock over certain bumps. turned out to be to do with the door locks. simple fix!!! get some insulation tape (electrical tape) and wrap it around where the door lathes onto the a pillar. it is spherical and a few wraps of tape round all four of the locks (not on doors) solved this problem.

Millo

I had a rattle from the rear, I thought was internal, turned out to be the rear damper upper bushes

I have a 'crash/thud' at the rear every time I go over bumps at present, had the self levelling vessels (springs) changed about a year ago after it stopped self levelling,so i don't think it those. Any ideas what makes them 'crashy' at the rear confused

I had a heavy-duy sounding rattle coming from the rear of my 330 Touring.

Turned out to be the clamps holding the pivots for the folding sections of the rear seats having worked loose.

Nothing that a Torx socket and a touch of threadloc didn't fix though. It had been driving me mad and I was so pleased with the results that I had to drive down a bumpy lane with the radio off just to enjoy the silence! ears
