I picked up a 528 tourer this weekend on a W Plate (Sorry not sure what E number this is). It only came with a Radio/Casette player. Poking around tonight, I found the Multi Changer Cradle in the O/S rear. What is the preferred Unit of choice? There are a number of Plugs to use, so it seems a little extreme to ask Mr Beemer to install. Do Halfwits supply what I need?

They are probably reconditioned units on ebay. I'm on changer 2 due to them having a habit of packing up. Replaced under warranty.

scared but happy

Did you find it would not load disks? I found the problem being that the unit is mounted vertical and the drive system is a metal bar driven by a plastic!! cog.

& they call this Superior German Engineering?

I was going to pop in to Halfwits & see what they mite have to do the job - or alternatively an ICE Specialist.

I fitted one in my E39 523i which also came without one.

I bought one off Ebay...BMW/MINI unit for £62, plugs straight in as the car is already pre-wired. Just two wires with plugs on the end to plug in and screw the unit into the cradle. Took about 5 minutes to do...works perfectly with the multifunctinal steering-wheel. No problems at all so far! Don't think it was 'reconditioned'...just second-hand.

At that price so what if it goes wrong after a while...if that's what they do? At that price I have to have 4 of them go wrong on me before I got up to the dealership's price! By the time 4 have gone wrong who says the dealer's won't have as well and be out of warranty!

I have just come back from Halfwits, have ordered me a Sony Multi Changer & 'Connector Unit' that will allow the wiring loom to be plugged into the Sony Unit. Cost <>£200. I'll let you know the outcome.
