E39 Power Steering

I have a 2002 E39 530D Sport with 70K and have found the steering is groaning whn I trun the wheel and the pump is making a "clicking noise". Is this a new pump or should I just top up with ATF Fluid. does anyone have any experience with these and an idea od=f cost to replace?
