I like it, but would rather have a 330 with a bit more mileage on it

Cotty has a thing for the 'older model'

You would not get a 330 for that money, but it is a better car.. so i would spend a little more buying a 330 which had more mileage than this 328i to bring the price down..

I tend to go for the slightly older model better quality and less depreciation

but then i do also use and abuse other peoples younger models

There are loads of 330's for that money. I agree with the sentiment though and would get a slightly higher mileage 330 over the 328. That one clearly hasn't been driven enough. I would rather have a newer higher mileage car than an older, lower mileage car.

I say all this having recently bought an E46 328, but I bought it because it was a bargain and I knew the guy who owned it, and after driving it I was just amazed that a 7 yr old car with 92k on could feel so solid. I've put on another 5k in the last couple of months and it feels spot on (very entertaining on wet roundabouts too). My first BMW and I am very very impressed, its replacement will be a 6 speed 330i sport in a year or so.

OK so mine is really old in this equation but getting back to the 328 V's 330 why would you want a higher mileage newer rather than an older, lower mileage car

If a modern car has been serviced on time then mileage is largely irrelevant with respect to condition. Modern engines don't wear out to the extent that one would see from a mass market model of, say, 20 years ago.

A 5 year old car with 100k on the clock will have had a fairly stress-free life cruising motorways, with all fluids and parts operating for long periods in their optimal temperature range. Compare this to a 5 year old car with 15k on the clock, driven 3 miles to the railway station car park in the morning, then back home again at night, never reaching full working temperature and suffering condensation corrosion.

I'd never buy a car that's done less than 15k/year. Fortunately Joe Public are still scared of high mileage cars, making them nice and cheap for me to buy.
