Ive got a BMW 320td and Ive noticed that the fuel consumption has gone down quite a lot lately. I used to do about 48mpg now low 40s?

The car is 04 and is due for its 44K service next week.

Is it anything to do with the service? or cold weather?

Help appreciated, just little confused

Hello mate.

I've a 530d & my mpg has dropped from 34/5 to around 30 during this cold weather. All the diesel owners are noticing it on the BMW forums, so it's nowt to worry about.

Something to do with taking much longer to warm up, the increase in cold dense air making more power (which uses more fuel) & the resistance in oil when cold, especially the auto's.

Petrols are affected too, but not as noticeable afaik.

Hth,

Cheers,

Gwaredd.
