Which ones have LSD?

Hi folks, my first post in BMW-land is because I am looking for a RWD car with a LSD for under £1000. I'm looking at K or L reg 3 or 5 series... what "E" numbers would they be?... and I was hoping that an online anorack, erm that is, knowledgeable expert, could let me know which ones had LSD as standard. Would a 525, for example, or a 325? And does it make it different if it's an estate?

All help welcomed... in return, if project cheap car does become project BMW, I promise I'll keep posting here!

Help! Bump! Does no-one know? For example, I've just found one I can afford, an M reg 520se, would that have an LSD, for example?

Dunno about the 5 series, but the 3 of the same era only had an LSD with the Sport models.

I think in that time, it was an option and up to the customer to order that...depends from car to car

Indeed, when you ordered a "sport" it came with LSD

Most 'M' cars have LSD fitted.

525i sports and 535i sports had lsd's.and m5's of course.e34's are 5 series from 89 to 97.e36's are 3 series from 91 to 97 ish

Ok so I want a sport model e34 or e36, or could have been optional extra. That narrows the search, thanks for the replies!

all sports should have an lsd,even the auto's.

Are you sure? I once looked at e36 328 Sports that had an optional lsd?

Well I found out this morning that mine doesn't have one as I managed to get bogged down in a load of frosty gravel around the house!

I only know a little on this subject from past ownership.

The E36 (3 Series) M3's have LSD and LSD was an option on 328's (my sport auto had one but I had to specify it). You cannot get a BMW LSD for the E36 325, I tried, it doesn't exist and others are the wrong ratio.

I think you could get an LSD for the 318IS but I'm not 100%.

For £1k you'll struggle to get an E36 with an LSD. - There are plenty of E30s out there with LSDs, or pick up a decent E30 and I know a few people who'll sell you an LSD in your choice of ratio for a couple hundred quid.
