Does anyone know where I can source a software upgrade for the SATNAV on my 04 M3? I know it shouldn't need one at that age, but it's got lots of main roads missing and won't take postcodes and BMW insist that although an upgrade does exist, they want to charge me nearly £200 to install it!! If I thought I was getting good value I would pay it, but it really galls that they won't do it FOC on a nearly new car.

I've seen the sat nav disc for sale on eBay.

Postcodes aren't supported on any E39/E46 satnav version, unfortunately

Do you mean software (display upgrade) or map (roads, navigation data) ?

Map disks can be bought from the dealer, downloaded off emule or take your chances on ebay (there do seem to be legit versions on there, but software on ebay is always a lottery!)

Two methods of getting new software versions:
- from the dealer. Wait till the car goes in for something important (like a service) and mention that you want it done.
- DIY. Download the software from emule or www.x5world.com/showarticle-88.html but ensure you follow the instructions to the letter. I've done this several times with no problems, but there is always the risk something will go wrong and you won't have access to the right equipment to fix it.

At the end of the day, yes it does take 5 minutes to do, but a dealer is not going to just drop everything and do it for you FOC. That's why I suggest doing it when the car is already booked in for chargeable work, so that the car's already in the workshop.
