Thinking of buying an M coupe

It's been a while since I last posted on here. It's almost 1 year now since I got rid of the Chimaera and now I long for a decent motor. Currently I have 328ci, an alright car but i'm becoming bored with it...and thats why i want an M coupe.
Just a few questions about the coupe, what is it like in terms of servicing? Is it expensive? reliable etc? Also I've read previous posts about the VANOS engine, is this temperamental or reliable or is it ready to go kaput at some point in the future?
Any help/advice would be great. Thanks.
