Am I missing something? My insurance renewal has just come through and I nearly fell off my chair! I switched from a TVR Cerbera to the 2001 M5 a couple of months ago and my insurance has skyrocketed.

28, full no claims, secure off road parking, no points, unlimited mileage with business and european cover:

Cerbera - £480
E39 M5 - £1017!!!!!

Something tells me all in all the BMW is going to cost a horrific amount to run... dealers quoting left right and centre for work that has blatantly been invented, insurance that beggars belief and so on and so on....

Are there any decent M-sport indies in the Midlands / Cotswolds?

I'm in the same boat. I needed to start a mirrored NCB policy when I bought my E39 M5 and ended up paying £1,400. Not good considering I'm on 10+ years NCB with my main policy on a porsche.

///M cars are always a knock where insurance is concerned.

IIRC when I was 20 and looking at either an E36 M3 Evo or a Cerbera 4.2 the M3 was £2800 to insure, the Cerbera was £1400. My M Coupe insurance is costing me £1300 now, but I could probably get a Chimaera done for around half that.

There must be a high percentage of cars with M badges either getting nicked or written off.

Interesting. Was hoping to get the Alpina insurance down from nearly £900. Not having any luck with online insurers so far...

I went for a 'fleet' insurance policy with Chubb. Worked out good value for money on two cars.

One company that is good on one car, isnt necessarily on another.
My M5 insurance is up and as usual I have had to move as companies are only interested in winning, not keeping.
Chuck your details into confused.com

The best deal has been with Adrian Flux who did my Westfield a few years ago - (underwriten by RSA) £813 (I'm 32 living in Surrey, IAM licence, 7 years NCB, 3 points 2001, two claims - both no fault - but put the premim up - gits. Including cover for my 30 year old girlfriend..
Quotes varied from this to 2k.

Cant understand that....insurance is a lot to do with repair costs....surely an M5 cant be any more than a Cerb to fix if it gets slapped ? (fibreglass body etc)

WOW, just had a look at their site. Even their standard policy looks really good, tied in with home insurance.

Have you tried Tescos?..... bizzarly for what is quite a specialist car, when we sold the B3S we had some months ago they came up trumps for the buyer

Have you tried the supermarkets [ Tesco, Sainsburys, Asda ] ?

Good value policies, in my view.

Sainsburys also run NCB beyond the five year usual maxium out
to about a dozen years.

Just tried Tescos and they're underwritten by UKI who I'm insured with already. Came out almost the same.

Remember Confused.com only gives you a rough comparison - their figure for my current insurer is nearly twice what I actually pay!
