E39 523 Touring - Phone Issues

Hi all,

Purchased a 99 E39 535 SEi Touring on Sunday. Love the car, it brings a grin to my face every time I drive it

Its full equipped including the built-in telephone

However on the little buttons for the telephone a little red light always stays on. Is this and issue even with a SIM Card inserted

Second question

When I insert my orange card, it finds the card I get the welcome to orange on the telephone, however it never locks on to Orange network? Is there something specific I need to do?

I hear rumours that the BMW telephone as O2 or Vodafone only..... check with a dealer.... mine was prepared for a phone, but to be honest I ditched this and went Nokia Bluetooth kit.... but I have DSP too, which is a nightmare...!!!

Indeed the phone is locked to the O2 network, got an O2 card and is well

Anyone know how to unlock the phones in one of these cars.

The phone kit on this age car is single band (o2 & vodaphone 900MHZ) only, Orange & T Mobile (1800MHZ) won't work you have to change all the electronics and aerial - not possible.

Nah, it is possible, its just financial suicide...

Seen quotes of between £2000 - £3000 to replace the integrated phone for a bluetooth integrated set - but even that is limited to what phones and the systems it will integrate to. Thanks BMW...

Then again, what can we expect? They attempt to do something without the knowledge of a clairvoyant.... Sometimes its wrong...
