I'm going to buy a 530d Sport in the near future (as soon as I can sell my TVR Griffith!!), and will be taking it to the Alps in the winter for a skiing trip. Snow chains are compulsory in the resorts if it snows, so there is now question about whether I should take them or not. I've used chains/cables on other cars with smaller wheels, but has anyone had experience of using chains/cables on a 530d Sport? Also, my brother-in-law will be driving down with us in his BMW M3. Has anyone ever fitted chains/cables to an M3, which obviously has bigger tyres than a 530d Sport?

Thanks,

Dan.

I think BMW say that snow chains CANT be used on cars with 18" wheels, so you'll need to get some 17s for both cars afaik

I think the standard Sport model only comes with 17" wheels. Can you use chains on them?

Thanks,

Dan.

I've found a website that claim to be able to supply chains for any car. You just plug in the tyre size required and model, and it recommends the best chains for that vehicle. I don't suppose anybody happens to know the standard tyre size for a 530d Sport?

Thanks,

Dan.

Use Spikesspiders. I do. Even if you find the right size chains for an M3, they will scratch the wheels. These are much better and easier to fit.
