Hey Guys,

Has anyone changed their Backboxes on the M3's to another system ?

Im curious as to what options are out there.
Have found a company called Hayward and Scott who charge around £560 ish but do not know if this will improve on the sound of the M3 or make it worse ?

Is there any other systems which can add to the great sound of the M3 which you guys can recommend ?

Thanks for any help on this topic Guys.

Go and ask at www.bm3w.com

John Thorne there runs his own company, Thorney Motorsport, that has developed a good one.

I worked on an M3 with one of these 'titanium exhausts on it;

The guy said he had imported it from America cheaper than the price of a genuine BMW one and it is 65% lighter.
edited just to add that the welding was a work of art and it would not look out of place hung on a wall

There's quite a few out there, what you want will depend on how loud you are willing to get and whether you do track days (remember the noise limit is quite easily breached with enough exhaust mods)

I think the majority of people on BM3W have gone for the Supersprint centre section and back box, but there are lots of options, Milltek, Gruppe M (above), Supersprint "Race" (loud), Eisenmann (louder), Larini (will wake the dead) - check out BM3W and search the past threads for video clips

I collected sound clips of M3 exhaust mods and at the last count there were 14 different ones to choose from. They're are probably more now.

I personally found I preferred the supersprint race cats, and straight through section leaving the rear silencer box alone. Most rear boxes try to loose the rasping noise (which comes from the manifold anyway) and in doing so seem to become too bassy and boomy for my liking. None of the rear boxes are far as we could tell, make any difference to power output. The best route to a little more poke comes from the higher flowing cats.
