Connecting an iPod to a new 5-series...

Does anyone on here have expierence connecting an iPod to the standard single disc headunit supplied in the current 2005-06 BMW 5-series?
My father is hoping to take delivery of his new 5 end of December, and is toying with the idea of an iPod for Xmas. But wants to be able to listen to it in the car, don't think he is particuarly bothered about charging it on the move or a cradle, just a basic cable connection.
