Chaps,

I have posted in General Gassing (Griffith vs Z3M), but thought I would catch attention here. I am trying to research this car as I know nothing about them: if you get a moment, I'd really appreciate comments on the GG thread...

Also, any decent buyers' guides about for the M Roadster?

Much appreciated,

Harry.

I'm pretty sure EVO did a buyers guide to the Z3M Coupe and Roadster. I can't remember which one tho, sorry.

Here's a link to a EVO story www.autoexpress.co.uk/roadtest/archive/?id=25805&x=66&y=0

Some pasrts cut and pasted

EVO said:
One aspect of the car that never diminishes with familiarity is the engine, and its ability to fire the M Coupe towards the horizon like an unusually shaped artillery shell. It really is a magnificent motor, made all the more vibrant by the BMW's lithe build and the five-speed 'box's keenly spaced gear ratios. Whatever the gear, any throttle input whatsoever delivers a real kick in the kidneys. At just £36,000 the M Coupe's price tag is a little undernourished in this company, but when a car looks and goes with such drama you can't exclude it for being cheap...As you've no doubt guessed by now, it's a clear win for the Carrera 4S, but what of the opposition? Well, of the ZO6, M Coupe and Tuscan S it seems almost churlish to mark any of them down. The Corvette's case is hardest to argue simply because it is left-hand drive, import-only and, at least as far as the interior quality is concerned, not worth £50,000. That said, it has pace and presence in abundance, the reassurance of 100,000-mile major service intervals and a chassis that proves the Americans can get things right when they put their minds to it. The M Coupe was included purely on the basis that it punches way beyond its fiscal weight, and for that we love it, warts and all. Crude but effective, it's a special car. And the TVR, dynamically flawed though it is, trips every irrational, emotion-led switch in your body with its irresistible combination of visual and aural drama and no-holds barred delivery. I know its shortcomings, but I still want one so much it hurts. Let's just say that they all finish joint third.

Basically Z3M Roadsters are Crap ZM Coupes on the other hand are one of the best cars ever made by BMW

Take a look at www.z3mcoupe.com/ for more info.

Don't mean to hurt the feelings of Z3M Roadsters owners (but you do own a shakey skuttley orrible blamonge of a car (great engine though))

I have to agree, i've driven many cars (from hot hatches, to scoobies, to large saloons to the Z3 M Roadster) and I have to say there is nothing wrong with the handling on the Z3M; it just gets a bit scary in the wet (because i have no traction control).

Well yes I was a bit unfair, but given the option between a ZM Roadster and Coupe the Coupe wins hands down.

Thanks for the details but I owned a ZM Coupe for two years and would say its one of the most entertaining cars I have driven. more fun than my 993.
I have driven it back to back with a Roadster and there is no contest.
To much scuttle shake an wobble and twist. On its own a great car, but up against its metal roofed brother? Different class.

Personally I think it does what it says on the tin. A fast, practical fun convertible. It's no boxtster s, but for £12k it's a lot of car for your money1

I have a black Z3M up for sale if you're interested. Check out www.pistonheads.com/sales/53607.htm for more details.

Cheers

There are some M Roadsters with traction control and the later S54 engine. Only 79 were made in RHD. If you can find one try it and then make your comments.

Z3M Coupe undoubtedly the better (quicker & sharper) car - but not an option for me; it has to be a convertible! And to be honest, while the M Roadster's handling may be 'lively' - I'm used to TVRs and a Custom 340bhp V8 MGB roadster - so I seem happiest sideways anyway...

adi - clicking on your ad now...

Thanks chaps - your continued comments are really appreciated.

Just to ad - adi, your car sounds perfect (even the right colour) and I would have come to see it, but sadly purchase will probably not be happening until next year. Love the number plate too. Shame, as you being in Barnes it would have been easy for me to get to you for a test drive/ride!

Phil, I don't think the comment about the car in the wet was supposed to be a put down.
My ZM Coupe in the wet was very scary, but it was the most fun in the wet I have driven bar a Westfield.

no problem gibo.
We love our M Roadster - both style and performance but I'm not a track person so on public roads it's more than powerful enough.

Harry - I am not making any real effort to sell at the moment (other than a PH ad). The baby is not due until April next year - so I may well not sell until then, therefore do get in touch next year if you're still looking as I may well still have the car. Cheers

Have put a date in my diary to call you in the new year, adi. Thank you - and good luck with the bairn, by the way!

When you say the VANOS work was done - does that mean that it was returned, checked & filters etc changed by BMW, or that it was replaced? And does the car have any sort of warranty left?
