Now, I fear I might be a bit slow on the up-take here but, is there any way I can open the boot of my 2004 E46 coupe from within the car itself and not via key remote for which I need to turn off the engine and removing it from the ignition? I've read the manual and found nothing.

I'm still searching for the cup-holders as I'm in denial that there aren't any. I fear this missing boot release feature may also be an incorrect assumption on my part.

what is wrong with using the button on the boot lid ? It was located near the number plate lights on my 330Ci

You have to use the pad on the boot itself.

As for cup holders, your local parts dept will sell you some for about £20 and they go in the centre consol next to the handbrake, you get a handy coin holder too!

Sadly Donut the cup holders are nearer £70. On the plus side though they will hold any phone unlike the bracket that is supposed to hold the phone.
