Well, it seems that a life long obsession of hatred of BMW's has wained and I am to be an owner in a couple of days.... :hehe:

I bought myself a loverly Oxford Blue E39 535i! Its loverly. Ok, its not the 540i but its nice enough and should prove to be a touch more economical for my needs. Comes fully loaded and amazingly everything has scrubed up well - even the tan leather seats.....

Cant wait to get have a bit of a V8 burble and something a touch quicker and better handling than the current shed. Still cant believe the price too - £4000 from a dealer with 3 years warranty, 2 years servicing (indi) and 1 years breakdown.... on an 8 year old car? Goes to show that these E39's are pretty reliable on the whole.

Anyway, any gotchas or problem areas to be looking out for? Never had a BMW before so really dont know where to look other than the obvious stuff....

Nah, it wont be that bad - will it? Almost all of my driving is motorway at or around the legal limit, so should be getting late 20's out of it. Currently the shed is getting 30MPG and it is only supposed to get 26, so I expect to do pretty well with the 535i. Brother in law also has a 535 and he is getting 30's, but he is a big girls blouse so its not suprising....

Ah, we be in the run up to Christmas then...

The used market for big-engined motors is poor at the moment, add to that the "christmas" effect and you get dealers who are desperate to shift them on. I would love to say it was all my negotiation skills, but in all honesty the dealer just wanted shot - not that its a bad car, far from it. But he had sold it twice! Once the buyer dropped out and second one couldnt get finance. So it was on the forecourt for nearly 2 months and with another 5 5-series motors there too, one had to go quickly. Bit my hand off when I said I was interested! Bit of luck really - then again, its a P-plater with 116k on the clock so it aint new. The sweetner deal is something they do on all cars the sell - dont get me wrong, its got a £500 cap on the warranty and the servicing is for 20k miles. So its probably worth a few hundred at most. But, should be minimum hassle motoring for a while at least.

Get it on Friday so looking forward to getting a V8...

Nice chariot - I bet your local petrol station will be pleased.

I'll be interested to find out what sort of MPG you get after a month or two of ownership.
