Hi Folks,
I know this has been probably asked a thousand times but cant seem to find it in the BMW section. Do you think a warranty is worth it rather than putting money away for repairs. Or do you suggest a certain company. Thanks

BMW warranty: Expensive but worth it.
Any other warranty: Put the money in the bank and cross your fingers.

NB. BMW warranty requires the car to have been serviced in line with the manufacturer's schedule and not modified.

Mine (F31 335d) was a BMW auth used car 4.5 years ago so first year was actual BMW warranty, then since then it's been on the Allianz plan that BMW use.

Car crept past 60k last year so went up slightly, I think it's £43 a month now for the comprehensive cover with £250 excess. I get all servicing done by an independent VAT reg/LTD company place who use gen spec parts then update the drive and give an itemised PDF receipt. I don't use the Allianz breakdown cover though.

I've recently had to make a claim as nearside headlight had some dead LED's in the running lights. They don't cover bulbs for obvious reasons, but LEDs are integral to the lamp unit. Cost should have been £2,450 inc VAT

If I'd have put the £40 into a saving account for 3.5 years (42 months) then it'd have contained £1,680 plus a bit of interest so in my case it's been worth it.

The thing that swung me for keeping the insured warranty was the sheer amount of electronics involved plus things like the panoramic sunroof - I know two who have had failures, the cassette alone is well over £2k.

When I first got the F31 it was just under 100k miles and under 10 years old - so was able to add extended fully comp warranty to it and glad I did (it had 3 lots of work over x2 claims - cost me £500 up front, but worked out at nearly £5k's worth of work going off BMW prices and labour costs etc)

So for me; it's deffo worth taking it over the 1st year at least and then take it from there - it's a huge piece of mind

Thanks Folks. Warranty it is. I've never had a warranty on a car before that I've had to get myself, but I am looking at a 640d and although I have a 325i at the moment, this latest one kinda scares me lol

Neither had I and our F31 is the youngest BMW I’ve ever owned. That’s why I took the warranty out… Just an auto box issues or engine issues could soon be into the £thousands etc!

It’s well worth it IMO
