I’m starting a new post because I don’t want you guys having to read everything all again about my problems.
I received advice to buy a c310+ to sort out my e39 problems. So I’ve done so and I’m impressed with its size, build quality and what it’s supposed to do.
When I took the car in for the last mot it had no warning lights on but , having passed, it was handed it has the amber warning light in the shape of an engine and the air bag light on.
I connected the 310 up under the bonnet and scrolled through the screen. The written instructions that came with the unit are next to useless. They tell you that the buttons take you in the direction that you press them which is fairly obvious.
The engine light I presumed was to do with the engine so I got onto the engine area on the 310 and then went onto fault, then erase fault and the light went off. Maybe someone more mechanically minded would have queried it more but I struck lucky.
Next I had to sort out the airbag light. I’d seen on YouTube that people turn off the airbag light by going into the body section on their readers so I did that and scrolled down to airbag. I did the simple thing of going straight to erase fault but nothing happens with this. With some YouTube films I’ve seen a Seat Sector part of the air bag but the 310 just seems to have air bag and nothing else. Silly of me to expect to be lucky a second time.
On each of the two occasions I’ve plugged the 310 into the car, when I’ve disconnected I’ve had to jump start the car. The ignition just clicks away. The battery is holding power once started.

How old is the battery? Could be as simple as it needs replacing

Or

You've a drain and needs to be sorted (FSU, boot light, HVAC panel, heater valve in the engine bay etc)

The Bosch battery is under 2 years old. It’s never had a problem until I plugged the 310 in today and the two times used today it needs a jump start.

There's something amiss. Time to get the battery checked out

Plugging in a simple diagnostic tool like the C310 won't drain the battery

For the airbag light, try accessing the specific fault codes rather than just erasing them. Look for "Read DTCs" or "Trouble Codes" options and note down any codes you find.

For the battery issue, get your battery load-tested to ensure it's still in good condition.
