I have a 2010 (post-LCI) BMW X5 E70. The sat-nav / entertainment system is all original equipment. The blue-tooth mobile phone connection is only for voice calls and the sat-nav is very out of date (old maps and only accepts the first four digits of a postcode).
Can anyone advise how I could upgrade the system for not too much of a cost? If it’s relevant, we use both Android and Apple and my car has the top view camera option.
The current system has a couple of faults which would be nice to clear along the way, the side cameras work well but the rear camera is very flickery or cuts out completely (seems to improve if weather is cold and wet). Also radio reception seems very poor.
I’m way out of my depth here, I’m pretty good on DIY mechanics and don’t mind getting stuck-in but last time I touched ICE was changing the head unit on my 1984 Polo. Thanks for any help.

Add a MMI (multimedia interface). It will let you use Apple Carplay and Android auto (both wirelessly) with the original BMW system.

I've got the MR12Volt system added to my F11 (CIC) and it's brilliant.

Takes about 20-30mins to fit (all plug and play) and is exactly the same as the OEM BMW offering in the newer cars (minus the touchscreen).

I don't bother with the radio in the car now, if I want a BBC station etc I just use it through Android Auto.

Thank you for your reply. I don't know all the terms but it gives me a start for some searches.
