Alpina D3 with red steering lock light and won’t start.
Discussion
Hi All,
I own a 2007 D3 and it’s been off the road for the past 5 or so years. I have decided to recommission it and get back to having some fun it.
I am having an issue getting it running as it’s been lock out by the steering lock. The last time I started the car was a few months ago to move it and whilst jump starting it I did notice the yellow steering wheel light was on on the dash, however this did not stop the car from starting. In fact it started on the press of the button.
We were having some work done on the last month and the builders needed the car out of the way. I was out at work, the battery was flat so they just pushed out of the way as it was unlocked.
I have this weekend tried to start the car as it needs moving again but I just can’t get the ELV to reset, the red steering lock fault is on and it won’t turn
The battery is dead but I have a boost pack which I connected to the jump point under the bonnet and I also hooked it to one of my other cars via jump leads to ensure enough voltage. It was reading 13.5v on average.
I also bought a TOPDON Artidiag EU which was specifically loaded for bmw.
The code reader did connect to the car ok and funny enough picked up the original BMW vin over the Alpina on an automatic scan. It also would pick up the Alpina vin by entering it manually.
The code reader picked up the following faults in the CAS and recorded two codes A0AA & A0B5.
I cleared the codes, rest set the elv counter. On the code reader this all read as complete and rest. Codes showed cleared however when turn the ignition on the red steering light was still on and the codes reappeared.
Can anyone offer some advice on what to do or try next as I am at a complete loss and can’t move the car. I really need to try to solve it this week.
Would a steering lock eliminator work as I can get one of eBay. Just not sure if it would have had to be fitted prior to having this fault or would by pass this fault.
Hope you guys will be able to offer some assistance.
Thanks in advance.
