Strange limp mode issue
Discussion
Hi All.
On Saturday I attempted the infamous steering rack knock repair kit on my 430i Gran Coupe F30. Easy job but the new part didn’t seem keen so I chickened out and put it back together with the original parts after cleaning it and re greasing using correct BMW grease. Took it round the block, felt a bit tight so unscrewed the thread a fraction. Felt about right and parked up.
40 mile drive to work today no problem(plenty of fast bits too). On the way home fortunately not far from a family member’s home it went into limp mode.
Steering still feels fine but I swear I could smell grease before this happened. Restarting has removed the limp warning but I have no idea why it did this(I will get it checked out).
Surely related but why?

Perhaps elaborate on not seeming keen? I found it to be an extremely easy job.On Saturday I attempted the infamous steering rack knock repair kit on my 430i Gran Coupe F30. You must have disturbed something, and you'll need a code reader to find out what. Other than ESP/stability/ABS warnings, there isn't much else the steering controller complains about.
