Currently driving a 2018 520d.

The finance deal is coming to an so have been looking at options.

Whilst looking at what’s out there over the last few days, a number of 330e have popped up. With my budget I’d be looking at a 2021 car with circa 30-35k miles on the clock. I’d be looking to buy via BMW so would come with a 12 month warranty.

Having never owned a hybrid and the internet full of horror stories about battery degredation etc etc, is there anything I should be concerned about?

TIA

Smaller boot and smaller fuel tank are the only drawbacks I have found with mine, mine is a 2020 330e. A wall charger isn’t necessary for them as the battery is “only” 12kwh so will happily charge off the provided BMW granny charger.
They are a very quick car with Xtraboost switched on or a very quiet everyday car in regular Hybrid mode with the extra torque from the electric motor noticeable at any speed.

A bit too early to say regarding reliability, but the F30 330e was/is atrocious.

Whether the current version will be better remains to be seen.

There is quite a long warranty on the battery, 7 or 8 years from new IIRC. This is on top of the AUC warranty of course.

We've just bought a 2021 530e which is presumably the same drivetrain (520i + battery), and we're very much enjoying the combination of quiet electric motoring around town, but not having to worry about range on longer journeys. There's obviously more to go wrong than on a pure BEV or Petrol car though.

My friend has the equivalent Merc. The hybrid battery gives a range of under a 10 miles now but is good for lower tax and low emissions zones which kind of makes a mockery to me.

Glad to hear your enjoying the 530e. How’s the battery range on it compared to what others seem to be achieving on average?.

It claims about 29 miles range when fully charged, I don't think you ever get all of that. I drove 18 miles around town in Reading the other day and the range was claiming 6 miles when I got home, so maybe 24 ?

Mine usually reads 24 miles fully charged and that seems to be about right; you can set the car to charge the battery or keep the charge at a preset level. Obviously this affects fuel consumption.
Big thing with getting the best out of them is using the Satnav and Connected Drive camera in the car, it plans the route and optimises the hybrid system.

Fortunately I live on the opposite side of town from RBC's latest bit of road idiocy on the A4 in the east. At least this new one was mostly just some paint and so a lot cheaper than the 5 million quid they paid for 200m of bus lane on the A33...
