Is there a way of checking battery health and cycles from the iDrive on a 45e?

Thinking of changing from my 3.0 diesel as I’m doing more shorter(<10 mile) journeys - and while the cost probably will take for ever to balance back, I’m slightly nervous I’m ruining the engine as I’m only going one 150mile round trip a month to offset it.

Had previously looked at leasing new, but now want to make sure I’m not buying a goosed used example - albeit from a main dealer as an approved used car.

I had a quick look on mine on the way into work this morning.

Couldn't find anything about battery health I'm afraid.

What sort of age are you looking at?

Mine is 2 years old and gets charged every couple of days if I am just doing my usual commute. Depending on temperature, state of charge when plugged in and probably the aligning of the planets I get a range of anywhere between 36 and 48 miles regularly. Yesterday I did a 3 hour drive of mainly motorways and plugged it in when the car was nice and warm, got in it this morning to a range of 60 miles!

Thanks for looking - much appreciated.

3 years - so assume it's just off lease.

Even 36 miles is two round trips to the station for me + change, so bob ob what I was expecting.

I forgot to add, mine is 2 years old with 32,000 miles on it, 12,000 of those miles on electric only.

Not noticed any degradation in the electric range at all.

Fantastic car and can't wait for my new 50e to arrive in the next few months.

Do you have a OBD reader? I use an app called mi3 to look up the battery info on my F30 330e.

I've had one from new - March 2022. Battery range has always seemed pretty poor. The most I've ever managed is around 35 miles, in winter it's often down to low 20's. All the above achieved while driving like a saint . . .

Mileage is now just over 22,000 with around 30% of that on battery. We have a charger at home which gets used 2 or 3 times a week. On that basis, it's been through almost 300 charge cycles. Haven't noticed any drop off in battery performance, but thats mainly as it's never been very good.

Predicted range can be coaxed up to 50 + miles - on a warm day driving down the longest hill known to man. The reality is somewhat different . . .

Had mine from new as well and never had low 20’s even in the coldest winter months. Low 30’s yes. Do you charge it from empty each time? I find that it gives better range when charged from empty and when warm after a drive.

Yes, have tried with and without pre-conditioning. That doesn't seem to make much difference although it's always nice to get into a toasty car on a winters morning. I do have the A/C running the whole time so that must impact energy consumption. Just to clarify, my definition of battery range is based on running from full charge to zero charge entirely in EV mode. By that I mean, city driving, all under 40mph, no longer trips that involve occasional use of the ICE etc. Obviously if one is completing a long journey using both EV and ICE power units, there will be - sometimes significant - re-charge of the battery. My driving style in town is very much of the 'Christian' variety -other religions are available - light acceleration, lots of lift and coast.

Most OEM's seem to suggest that city driving provides the best range results.

Research led me to discover that the US versions of the 45E have a down specced battery, the usable capacity is about 20% less. My dealer assured me I didn't have one of those . .

That aside, I do like the car. Comfortable, quick enough.
