BMW Delivery Stop Aug 2024

I’m not sure if this is new news, but I’ve heard there is a massive delivery stop / stop sale on almost all new and approved used BMW and Mini cars due to an integrated braking system defect or something.
I can’t seem to find much information and the BMW dealer we are getting our car from is telling me they are completely in the dark on when the fix will be sorted. From what i’ve read on US forums, it’s affecting pretty much every BMW model globally so potentially this could be huge for BMW with the new registrations due in Sept in UK.
Surprised it’s not been getting more attention, if anyone has any news on what’s happening in the background would love to hear it, There must be a lot of people on here affected?

I tried to part exchange my twelve month old X5 against a new Range Rover a fortnight ago. No dealer would bid on the car, even the original supplying BMW dealer. They cannot take stock in of the affected cars as they are not able to resell until the component has been changed and they already have an excess of used car stock due to this issue. I spent hours arguing with BMW UK but apparently they are powerless to force a dealer to purchase an affected car. BMW UK cannot even confirm if the non existent replacement part will be weeks or months away. I had received no prior recall notice from BMW beforehand as apparently they did not want to alert owners of the problem until they had the part for the fix available.
We had an older X5 in the fleet which we swapped as the part ex but the experience has left us out of pocket and stuck with a car that we cannot sell until the fix has been carried out. Although the supplying dealer were sympathetic BMW UK were absolutely shocking with their responses. The car had already been off the road for three weeks when it was a fortnight old due to a fault that required a special order from Germany.
Although it is classed as a "Safety Recall" the car is apparently perfectly safe to drive until the fix. So work that one out.
Land Rover get a bad press but the response from BMW has been far worse than anything that I have ever received from them.

Yep it’s not a recall yet, just a stop sale of existing stock, so if you plonk a reg number or VIN into the recall checker nothing comes up. I’d imagine it will become a recall eventually, but from what i can gather the brakes will still work so you’ll all be fine for now
And it’s affecting almost everything, certainly all X models including the electric stuff. We’ve bought a used iX1 and they won’t let us have it.

This is a global stop sale affecting every model except 2 Series, 4 Series and X4, so you’re one of the lucky ones. The excluded vehicle list is a strange one to say the least given they’re all vehicles that share platforms and parts with excluded models like the 3 Series and X3 but there you go. As i said in my original post, very strange this isn’t bigger news as currently BMW cannot release ANY cars excluding those above, given we’re about to enter new registration in a week’s time they are going to be hammered, but the dealer’s (allegedly) don’t have any information on when the issue will be resolved. From what i’ve read, only specific VINs will be affected but they haven’t confirmed which ones yet hence the complete delivery stop. Really is a a bit of a shower, and i’ve been told it will likely be at least another 1-2 weeks before i get any information.

The instrument panel may not have been produced by the supplier to specifications. In a crash,
the front passenger air bag may not deploy as intended, which could increase the risk of injury to
the front passenger. Pieces of the instrument panel may separate, which could increase the risk
of injury to vehicle occupants.

I had been following this over on bimmerpost. Which is where I heard about it and then asked the dealer.
I have an i5 Touring about to be built WC 2nd September. I have been told by dealer that as of last week all cars coming down the production line will be unaffected (This also is info one one of the bimmerpost threads).
Accoring to a thread I have been following - It does seem that this recall has been out since February but it seems like the parts were already in the supply chain, I don't know how this stuff works but it appears cars have been built subsequent to it being known about. I am guessing they just couldn't stop production etc with no alternative parts.
Someone posted photos of their i5 that did seem to be exhibiting some sort of fault and it just an idrive message that pops up telling you your handbrake needs to be looked at or something along those lines I don't think they felt the handbrake not work.

No i guess not, only hundreds of people on forums from all over the world reporting they’re being prevented from taking delivery of their cars, not a single one being released due to a braking issue. There was a post by an Australian car magazine as well a a few days ago, but even they had nothing official from BMW.
As is say, I am surprised with such a huge issue there isn’t more publicity but BMW are saying nothing publicly. I’m checking daily with the dealer and other forums, no movement yet.

Not just BMW but Minis are impacted too. I was suppose to get my new Mini Countryman April reg (UK) last week, but the dealer couldn't. It looks like the head office of BMW itself hasn't issued any official statement yet on this delivery stop. That is the last I know from my dealer impacting almost all new 2024 models of the group.

Had a call from the dealer today, supposedly BMW GB still have no defined fix and they are stockpiling cars. Confirmed affecting most BMW and Mini models, new and used that are in stock. It will become a recall for customer cars in future but right now is only a stop sale on cars at dealers.
They offered deposit back but i just left it for now. Sounds like a right shambles.

The VIN on the UK recall check says there's no recall. But the sales stop applies. BMW are updating a list of affected VINs as they confirm whether it's added to the recall or confirmed as ok. Trouble is, most 2023 builds are going to be subjected to the recall. Now, whether BMW allow a waiver for taking an affected car away and use it until the parts are in to fix, or whether a further wait for having the replacement parts fitted...

Anything built from March 2023 to July 2024 is affected according to BMW Blog, cars out in the wild will be recalled but anything at dealers for sale/resale cannot be released.
For UK market, I would imagine this will seriously hurt new registrations for 1st Sept. If you’re getting a 1, 2, 3, 4 Series or X3/X4 you’ll be fine of course.
