Hi,

My wife’s X3 3.0d had just got up to 45k and seems to have developed a slight brake judder. The discs and pads look like the are nearing end of life (pads about 2-3mm left. It’s the blue m-sport calibre version.

What are the best replacements? I presume Genuine BMW ones?

I’m going to tackle this at home. Is there anything different to a normal brake change on these?

Many thanks!

Most will recommend OEM only, but a decent aftermarket option will be fine too. I've use Febi/Bilstein discs on both my F31 and current G31 with Brembo (OEM) pads, and they're fine.

Job is very easy, you just need to punch the retaining pins out to release the pads and it's recommened to get a fitting kit to replace the spring and two pins whilst there.

If you're doing the rear, you need to set the electronic parking brake to service mode to work on the brakes. You can do it with ISTA or with Bimmerlink.

OEM BMW if you can; ATE/TRW/Jurid and Textar make OE brakes also; BMWs pads are generally Textar or Jurid

Glafer make some as well; but never come across them myself

I'd stick to those brands personally

For OEM; try Cotswolds BMW or Douglas Park BMW, they tend to offer the best prices (Cotswolds will off the forum discount etc)

Thanks. I think I’ll go genuine from dealers, they have lasted and performed well this long and should see the car to 100k.
