B58 Tuning sweet spot?
Discussion
I've got a 2018 340i, I fitted the MPPSK after 6 months then mapped it once it was out of warranty. I've not gone any further because A, I have been busy with work and the cars been neglected and B, it can't put the power down with an open diff.
Work is just starting to flow a bit better and I've just got back from Nurburgring, seeing all the nice cars there has rejuvenated my enthusiasm for the 40i. Once the diff is sorted I'm going to add a little more power, I've seen loads of B58 powered cars running silly power but I'm not after maxing anything out, my priority is reliability. I've used the same method with all of my previous cars, basically don't push anything to it's limit.
I'm going to get a sports cat and a TU fuel pump (perhaps an intake for noise too) which would then get me up to about 480bhp I think. At this point, is the turbo being pushed hard? Worth upgrading for longevity? I'd be happy at that kinda power level but I guess if the turbo is pushed perhaps I could wack a new one on and take it to a round 500bhp maybe, while keeping everything in a nice working window.
Anyone got some experience of tuning these?
TIA

Stage 2+ is great and keeps the drivability.
Make sure to do a cold start delete if you’ve got the mppsk , else it will do your head in.
I’ve had a big power setup previously, but ended up reverting back to stage 2+ as it wasn't balanced.
It’s a great daily driver. Very fast, sounds great, and handles ok. It’s not an M3 nor does it pretend to be.
Happy to take you for a spin if your in you’re local.

I had a 240i and thought it was a brilliant car, I kept mine at Stage 1 and ran it for about 12 months, I never felt it needed more power to be honest, I’m sure an LSD would have benefitted it.
I traded mine in for an F82 M4 which is a different beast entirely but I’d still happily get in another Stage 1 M240i

If the PalmerSport spec M4 Competition is anything to go by, then 500hp feels spot on to me. Very fast indeed. It was a twitchy handful on track though, so an M lite with that power on the road would be quite tricky in bad weather I would imagine.
Yeah, I expect 500 bhp to be a handful, I have Bilstein coilovers, it's coming up to 45k now so I'll probably start refreshing and upgrading bushes over winter too. Plus the LSD hopefully it'll be manageable. I've got 450bhp in my 340i with an LSD and it is very manageable. It will only break traction in the dry when you are silly with it deliberately. In the wet it is a lot easier but these engines seem to retain their ability to be entirely driveable as if they were stock, when tuned to much higher power levels.
The B58 is a modern masterpiece of engine design in my view.

That's where the S58 comes in. It has massive midrange punch but also has the top end zing the B58 does not have.
But unfortunately that does mean buying an M vs an M lite though Could always retro fit an S58 into an M lite though I suppose. It's such a different engine to the B58 and would be worth the faff, imo.
I'd like a E90 M3 next year I think so that would cover the character side of things for me, albeit in another car but you can never have too many BMWs right.
