Hi all,
With service reminders (including MOT) all on car computer now (2019 220d Coupe), what would happen to the reminder if the MOT is done by a garage that's not main dealer nor bmw specialist?

Would that leave a warning or red flag or something on the car computer?

My car is currently in insurance repair, and might not be fixed until after MOT due day. Given my local bmw main dealer usually having 2 week lead time for bookings, I'll need to find someone else who can do MOT with much shorter notice.

Thanks

You can easily reset the date for the MOT in the infotainment system. It's somewhere in the Vehicle Status menu IIRC

Can you not book it in now ready for you to take it to BMW once the works been finished?

If not some indy's will be able to update the iDrive for you IIRC

On the outside, it looks just like the service reminder, like below (the picture isn’t the actual one showing right now)

The repair garage can’t tell me when it will be fixed as they are waiting for parts; if I try to book the MOT with bmw main dealer when it’s fixed, it’ll be another 2 weeks before they can do it.

If you mean add it to the service history on the drive then provided the garage has access to the bmw portal then it can be done. We don’t tend to add mot’s to the online system unless we carry out a service at the same time.

On many BMWs including our X1 and 5 series you can update the MoT date manually yourself....just bring it up on the I drive and change the date. No special equipment needed

Thanks, good to know. I don’t want the MOT on the service history, just want the reminder for the mot to be dealt with properly. So if the MOT date passed and nothing happens, the reminder just goes away?

Thanks for the info.

It’s probably no big deal at all, I’m just obsessing with details a bit.

You might find a bmw dealer will add it to the service history, just about any other garage will reset the date on the drive but not add it to the service history.

Slightly off topic, so if you miss an actual service (not MOT), would that leave a red flag or something in the idrive?
