Hi all,

Slightly concerned about the strong smell of fuel I’m having on cold starts which seems to be getting worse, on my BMW E92 325i N52.

I do understand that on cold starts, the car run rich to warm up, so a fuel smell is somewhat normal. However, recently the smell has become noticeably stronger. Even my partner has commented about it.

Today when starting up, the car released a small puff of smoke and absolutely stunk of fuel. Being so hot, it can’t have been condensation, so I’m certain that smoke was possibly unburnt fuel from the previous drive, which saw me drive the car pretty hard as it had been getting mostly short journey's.

The smoke did however look like typical water vapour and dissipated very quickly. It just had a very strong petrol smell. Just to also add, I’m not losing any coolant or oil.

Leaking injectors aren’t common on the N52 and the car idles perfectly on cold starts, so I’m sure it’s not that. Not a single error code stored either.

Any thoughts? Hoping I’m just overthinking this.
