Hello all

Something strange happened to my grandfathers car at the weekend. It is a 2000 E38 735i.

We had been driving it for around 1.5 hours and everything was fine. We then parked up and it rained heavily. I was putting things inside the boot during this time which was open for 2-3 minutes at most during this downpour.

Anyway, a short time afterwards, we started the car to leave and the tachometer was stuck at around 2k rpm. Pressing the accelerator did nothing. We switched off and on again a couple of times and the same issue occurred. The engine was idling fine though.
So we decided to keep driving and after a few minutes, the tachometer went back to working as normal.

Therefore I was wondering if anyone knows what this issue may be please or is it the sign of something worse to come?

Thank you

Have you tried running the tacho test via the hidden menu? If not start there and see what happens / how it goes?

Could simply be age and the motor etc
