I know it’s a worn out topic.
My insurance is pretty cheap across the board. Various vehicles all good value. My just sold Aston was £150!
However I’m really struggling to get a good quote on 640d GC. Between 800-2000!!
In fact I got a better quote on a M6??
Off to look at one in a bit. It won’t stop me buying but a bit miffed that I’ll save on Road tax only to lose on insurance

As mentioned been a few topics on this, and sadly it's due to the theft rate of parts and whole vehicles.
I have an F31 335d 66 plate (standard car, S,D & P plus full business use for me and my wife, 4k miles per year, clean licenses for 15 years):
2022 premium = £525
2023 premium = £640
2024 premium (renewal price) = £1,190
I fell off my seat when I opened the letter. Got it down to £850, but had to call round - the online comparison sites were all over 1k.
We've had an attempted break in once for the keys, and a few instances of scrotes on the drive trying doors and looking around it. I've said one more incident and it's going up for sale.

There's considerably more to it than that, not the least the rising cost of new cars and the increase in payouts for personal injury claims. All that is understandable if you drive a car that falls into one of the categories mentioned. But why should the driver of a three year old Golf see their premium skyrocket? It's the industry business model itself that's at fault to a degree.Somebody said:
Have you tried a quote on BMW Flex?
That's who I use currently and apart from the no name, no cover insurers, Flex were cheaper than the big players on Go compare, meerkats et al. I was with LV= last year at £660 for my 2016 330d. This year it went up to £1250. Upon renewal, LV= refused to quote on said comparison sites, but BMW Flex is underwritten by Highway, and who are Highway a part of? Yup, LV=
Nobody can figure out the other worldly mystery that is motor insurance, but I suspect with BMW diesels in particular, there is the well publicised engine fire issues that are probably notching them up on the risk factor vs the petrol engines?
Another thing is cost of repair. 2 grand for a 3 series adaptive LED headlight, £1500 for non adaptive. Stupid labour rates at well over £100p/h and a minor front end shunt runs you into several grand.
Congratulations.
Any car insurance has shot up this year, but thankfully it doesn't seem to have affected my old BMWs too badly.
Strange that an M6 would have been cheaper to insure than a 640d, although when I swapped my Z4 3.0Si for an M in 2019 the M was cheaper to insure. Maybe M owners are a bit more precious about their cars!
