Guys,
Have read much stuff about E46 M3 engine blowups, but I'm not clear whether anyone's had these woes on cars supplied new lately - say within last year (54 or 05 reg). I'm thinking of buying but still have some doubts. What say you?

Nothing to worry about really.
Engine issues were pre-June 2003 cars.
I'm heavily involved in BM3W and I don't think I've heard of any car post-June 2003 'letting go'.

Yep, that sounds believeable. Trouble is vast majority of those posting horror stories don't say how old their car was at the time of the explosion! That leaves a big hole in the story for anyone thinking about buying new or newish and especially if anticipating a lowish mileage. For sure BMW had a problem and in USA/Canada responded poorly in the first couple of years. Also, the dealers didn't fix problem at first visit in some case - repeat failures/remedies noted. Situation seems OK now and I think Autocar's scare story was very irresponsible as it failed to faciltate a balanced view. I'd quess their readership is biased towards the new/ish buyer as well.
