BMW X3 F25 2015 replacement key - procedure and cost ?

The 3 button things has fallen off the physical key bit and despite backtracking everywhere I have been today, I cannot find the damn thing.
Now working from the other key, I can see that this 3 button bit alone will open the damn car so I presume I first have to tell BMW to cancel whatever key this was and then to get them to make a replacement.
Should I also be expecting to get royally shafted if they have their way for some ludicrous £250-£500 bulls
t number or is there some way I can get them (Group 1 Auto) to do the honourable thing and give me another key for not much at all or preferably, free.
The car gets serviced there since new so presumably some goodwill (or not !).
