How often does your M5 have to visit the garage? I'm reading horror stories about MAF faults, camshaft position sensors and exhaust air injection faults.

I've had mine a few months now and it's gone in once for a camshaft position sensor, some rear suspension replacement and leaky rear diff seals and it's only done 26k now.

Can I expect frequent visits back to the shop? I have the BMW warranty so it's only cost regular servicing to far...

Mines been pretty good over the 31k miles I've had it. O2 sensors replaced at 56k miles and pads and disks done at 34k miles. Did have a door actuator fail though, which permanently locked the front passenger door and the only way the dealer could resolve it was to shread the door card which cost a fortune. (No Warranty)

Loads of information on the US M5 Board but it does appear to be luck of the draw as to how many problems you get.

Have the car looked over thoroughly. It may have been abused by it's first owner and I'd get everything fixed before it becomes dangerous.

I had my E39 M5 for almost 4 years (bought it new) and it was very reliable. There were a few minor niggles but the warranty covered them all. An excellent car overall.

P.S. Don't forget our M5 meet on October 2nd at Runnymede...

The car is basically like new, 23k (27 now), total BMW history and BMW warranty. I had it checked over at its inspection 1 just after I bought it -- it's a peach so I am certain it's not been abused or is dangerous.

I was just wondering whether I can expect niggly little problems like MAFs and CPSs going out regularly. I already know it doesn't use any oil to speak of so that's off the list.

Seems like the answer is no, it should be fine.

Tell me more about the meeting please...
