I'm in the market for a new car and quite fancy a 3 series again. I have a budget up to around £25K which would put me in a 2020 / 21 model. The prices of both the above models seem to be very similar, insurance and other running costs also similar.
It's not a company car so not looking to take advantage of the BIK rates. As a daily car, which would be the better option of the two? I do around 12K miles per year including a mix of rural, urban and motorways. I know the diesel will be lighter but presume the hybrid will be a touch quicker with the electric boost (providing I'm charging it each day). Any known issues with either variant and / or experience of them would be gratefully received!
I will need the touring model as I carry a dog to work each day.

I've a 2020 330e I'll look through the I drive tomorrow as I'm sure it tells me it's overall mpg over the 71k miles I've done in it and let you know.
Driving has been a mixture but quite a lot of motorway although I don't charge it much.
In winter I just press the charge button near home to get enough charge in the battery so I don't have to de-ice the windows in a morning as I'm lazy!!!!

Ah superb! You can be my guru then Any issues in those 71K miles at all? Any niggles etc? I'm coming from an Audi S5 so the economy will be an improvement regardless!Driving has been a mixture but quite a lot of motorway although I don't charge it much.

Only problems i have had with it was there was a batch of bad batteries and mine was in the group of cars that had them fitted.
BMW took the car for about a month i think it was. They fitted new batteries the car had 20k miles on it at this point.
They told me i couldn't charge it until i had new batteries installed which was five months from them telling me not to charge it until they were fitted for which they gave me £350 per month towards petrol.
The charge point flap wouldn't lock the plug in this was also replaced at 60k.
Every so often (not regularly) the screen and dash will go blank and reset itself as you're driving along it has done this from new and BMW say they can find no issue.
Don't buy mine as the young nephew loves the launch control so we have done this a lot!!!!
Still on original brakes last service only showed them at 20% worn front and 30% worn rear?
It is now on it's third set of tyres fitted last week it does a lot better on tyre wear than i was expecting.
The boot is tiny i did want the estate but couldn't pick it when i ordered mine.
Drivers seat is showing signs of heavy usage at 71k miles.
The Mrs charges it if she knows she is going to use it as she then thinks she's saving the planet.
I had a 2016 Diesel A6 before this and much prefer the 330e.

I was looking at 330e prices the other day, they seem to have dipped in value disproportionately to the other drivetrains on offer and are very good value now for what they are.
Is it purely due to volume of 3-year old fleet cars hitting the market at once, or is there some consumer fear around running the hybrid powertrain out of warranty?

That's great info thank you. Do you know if they all come with Apple car play as standard as none of the adverts appear to mention this?
Also, I've read there is an increase in VED due to some luxury car nonsense. What do you pay for this?
Don't know about VED as mine is a company car which we keep for four years or 100k miles. So it's due to go back in July. Also, I've read there is an increase in VED due to some luxury car nonsense. What do you pay for this?
I do know that when i ordered mine i had to keep it below £40k or i would have to pay extra tax which i was told would be the VED which is why i didn't get the spec i wanted i could only get the M Sport which came in at £39,925 in 2020
I did want the next trim up but i'm not putting money towards a company car.
The funny thing when picking it the free colours were Portimao blue, Black or Sunset Orange everything else was an extra cost.
I went orange as the Mrs said i wouldn't order an orange car.
