How easy is it to replace the standard 3 Series E36 mirrors with a set of M3 ones on a coupe and what bits are required.

Not a lot to it really, did it on my 320i coupe a few years back.
I'm going from memory so don't take any of this as gospel but.....
Pop the plastic triangle off the inside of the mirrors, that should reveal some nuts, undo and off they come.
Depending what state your M3 mirrors are, and only coupe mirrors will fit a coupe, the saloon/compact mirrors are different (well the backing plate is) mine came with out motors so they were swapped over from the original cricket bats, connect up the electrics, do the bolts up and away you go.

Beware of picking up a set off Ebay. BMW sell mirror+baseplate as one item. You will see a lot of M3 mirrors with no baseplates advertised on Ebay, popped off some poor sod's P&J by the local chavs.

Aside of the base plates, which are different, are the actual M3 mirrors the same on the e36 saloon and coupe/convertible.
Thanks

You will find that the base plates are different from saloons to coupe's. So be sure you get the right ones.

Speaking from experiance her also as some little scum bag kindly relieved me of mine from my M3, whats the bets that there're gaffer taped to a nissan micra or something of the sort!!. But seriously i don't know what your budget is so bear this in mind...Euro Car Parts came in at nearly half price for an origional spec (BMW doesn't make them) mirror housing and baseplate.

Happy motoring!

John.
