E65 / E66 740Li BMW talk to me (#terry tibbs)
Discussion
Hi,
I've just taken on a 740li 2007 BMW E66.
I've got a few faults coming up on the display, PDC, headlight assist, indicators, etc some go out some come back. What is the best code reader to use to get to the bottom of these? I;ve tried a basic reader which didn't pick these faults up and an ELM and iPhone was no better. 2007 and the E65/66 seems to not be covered by quite a few apps/readers so not sure what to do.
Also can anyone say what is the most recent sav nav version that i can go to. Lots of site conflict and i don't want to waste money on discs that won't work.
I'm sure i'll have plenty of questions as this model version doesn't have the greatest info on the web but maybe I'm just not looking in the right places.
HELP!!!!!

The Creator C410 plug n play code reader will work; but for the E65 I recommend learning your way around INPA and ISTA on a laptopI've just taken on a 740li 2007 BMW E66.

I had an E65; had no end of electrical issues with it, even when BMW had it and they said they fixed it; it reared its ugly head soon enough
I'd not waste any money on the satnav in it; it's old and clunky. Stick with your mobile and Google Maps/Waze and save yourself a lot of ballache etc
Have you checked battery voltages as these cars do not like low power?!
I had a E65 in 730D flavour about 11 years ago. Superb car. Never had any issues with it. Made it from St Tropez to Clais on a single tank once. Just got bored with it. So capable, reliable and comfortable. Should have kept it. Tried to buy another one a few years ago and found a lot of dogs on the market so gave up and with with a Merc CLS instead.
A few years later I had another BMW with DVD based satnav. I bought an upgrade disc but tbh never really bothered with it. Stuck a phone mount on the windscreen and used google maps.

The NAVI module would either be CD-based (NAVI01/02) or DVD (NAVI03). The latter is based on the MK4, BMW High maps - latest update is 2019 from memory, don't think anyone bothered to assemble custom maps for them.

Any advice on this would be appreciated. I've come from Porsche/Mercedes/Volvo in the last years back to BMW. The last being an e39.M5 so I'm a bit at a loss

Did you not have access to INPA for your M5; I used that and the Creator code reader for all my E39s, my E38 and E65 (as best as I could and then dialled in my pal as he knows them inside out)

Is there any difference in the Creator models as I'm seeing C420. Are they better or maybe not as compatible. I can see from the descriptions much difference in the model numbers but guess its in the nuances.https://www.amazon.co.uk/Creator-Battery-Registrat...

I'm not a guru at all; only ever played with my pals set up on his laptop. But speak to Jimmy at cable-shack.co.uk and he'll be the best to advise

The M5 was dealer maintained at the time regularly so I'd just tell them to sort any issues without getting into self maintenance as workwise i was too busy.Did you not have access to INPA for your M5; I used that and the Creator code reader for all my E39s, my E38 and E65 (as best as I could and then dialled in my pal as he knows them inside out)
I'll speak to Jimmy but is the software available on the web for free to trial run it?
