Sorry if this has been done to death, haven't found a straight answer. I have a well looked after 330d E92, I've had it most of it's life so I know it's well looked after. That said, it's got 120k miles, do I risk expensive things breaking if I mess about with a DTUK box? I don't drive like an idiot so it won't be driven hard every drive, just the odd occasion when I like to put my foot down.

You might be better off getting someone like Simon at emaps to have a look, he did my 420d GC and it made a good difference in terms of driveability and even economy.

I had my 330d remapped by Angel tuning when it was on 120k. Now on 160k, still absolutely fine 👍

To be fair, I think the newer dtuk boxes have various stages of map that can be adjusted on the fly to suit the driver, rather then the older one map boxes.

Having said that, still can’t beat a bespoke map.

Speaking from experience, I wouldn't up the boost on a turbo with that mileage and expect it (the turbocharger) to survive for a particularly long time.

It doesn't have to be doom an gloom, a map that significantly increases performance may well expose worn or failing components but any decent mapper will be performing a health check on the vehicle before making any changes.

I’ve put approaching over a million miles on these engines. It was the rest of the drivetrain that suffered first. My single engine failure was a front crankshaft pulley.

So, do you want to roll the dice ?….

It's an M57 engine which you've looked after well, I think a mild map will be fine. My old 335D was over 200k when the next owner after me remapped it!
My current 635D was on around 10k when mapped, and is fine now with 84k on it.

Unless you're buying one second hand, I see no benefit of getting a DTUK box over even a generic remap for a similar price.

Although my experience of their products is on a different model (Cupra 4Drive) I had nothing but problems with CEL, limp modes etc. It was far too aggressive even on medium settings and would trigger all sorts of problems with the car.

I put a larger turbo and intercooler on my M57 engine at 220k miles - was absolutely fine.

As you know, additional power will tend to highlight weaker components, so factor in a clutch / torque converter as a potential.

Lost count of how many cars I have had mapped then replaced the clutch a few days after.
