BMW M340i Mods and Insurance
Discussion
Hi all,
Looking for some guidance. I've recently purchased a new M340i and had it lowered by 40mil - my current insurance company wont touch it. Which is mental as I have an M3 Competition on the drive.. What insurance companies do folks use (UK) that have had modifications made to their cars please?

Not quite sure why you think having a new M3 Comp. on your drive makes you a special case, but hey ho.Looking for some guidance. If you modify your car you need to tell your insurance company, hope they will insure it or go to a specialist.
I have found A-Plan (Thatcham branch only, phone them) pretty competitive on many modified cars before.

Sometimes insurers don't like mods; more so the mainstream onesLooking for some guidance. I've recently purchased a new M340i and had it lowered by 40mil - my current insurance company wont touch it. I've been with Chris Knott for years now and rarely find anyone better than them: https://www.chrisknott.co.uk/
I've used Adrian Flux a few times; but Chris Knott have been better for me personally and that's with OEM spec cars and modified cars also (brakes, coilovers, exhausts etc)

The reference to the M3 has nothing to do with me being a special case- moreover, to highlight the absurdity of being able to get insurance with an M3 vs M340i with lowered suspension. thanks for you response either way.
But from the insurance companies viewpoint it is not absurd, which is my point. You have a car that has been modified, they have no idea by whom, they have no idea of the competence of the installer, they have no idea how well designed they are, they have no idea how robust they are.
Due to these unknown variables there could very likely be several reasons why you/your car could be more likely to be involved in an accident due to faulty/inferior quality parts/installation.
These are unknown additional risks that the VAST majority of mainstream insurers are just not willing to take, hence the price rise/unavailability.
As I said in my original answer & others have added, there are many specialist insurers who take a different view, google is your friend, there are likely hundreds.

I recently tried Flux for a quote on our renewal. They wouldn't quote. Who knew a 15 year old 335i was high risk hey. I've been with Chris Knott for years now and rarely find anyone better than them: https://www.chrisknott.co.uk/

I had a remap on my X3 M40i and Admiral were fine ... but when I mentioned adaptive suspension listing out all the factory fitted extras (at their request) they good all weird.
Once a supervisor said Ok all was fine but it seems Admiral for one are ok with remaps but not suspension changes. It took about 10 minutes before I got through to them it was a standard manufacturer option and not me having something fitted after I bought it !
Is your current insurer Admiral ?

Another shout for Chris Knott.Used Flux in the past too who were fine as well.
I modified my Mazda MPS 3 with a chip and suspension mods . No problem at all.
Still with them with my F40 M135i .
Easy to deal with .
