E61 535d turbo going?
Discussion
Noticed recently under acceleration there is a loud whoosh noise, similar to driving by trees with the window open. And no I wasn't just driving past trees with the window open.
No lights have come on the dash, not had a chance to plug in to read an errors. Hoping that it's just a damaged boost pipe somewhere but equally worried that it could be turbo on its way out!
Plan is to plug in tomorrow & try get it in the air on the weekend to see if there is anything obviously damaged
Any advice would help.

Sounds more like a split hose somewhere; I'd investigate thoroughly first and see what condition the parts are in before exploring more drastic thoughtsNo lights have come on the dash, not had a chance to plug in to read an errors. Generally when a turbo goes; it goes (or starts leaking a lot of oil etc)

I replaced the red boost hose a few years ago no as this was leaking oil at the seal. Assuming best access will be underneath. Apart from the boost hoses, is it possible to check the vac lines without too much disassembly?Generally when a turbo goes; it goes (or starts leaking a lot of oil etc)
Mine definitely doesn't sound likes this so hopefully just a split hose: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GB4l5ZsV85Y
Yes, I did look and found a massive tear in the top intercooler hose, the one which goes from the intercooler to the intake manifold. For now it is taped up and issue has gone away, no whistle and much better economy.
BMW waster £250 for the complete hose assembly, got a silicone hose kit for £50, just waiting for it to be delivered and will then swap it out. The current one has jubilees which leads me to believe this has been swapped before but might have been a cheap ebay special and failed again. Hopefully the new one will last.
I do love having all my boost back!

Good to hear you're all sorted and it was simply a tear BMW waster £250 for the complete hose assembly, got a silicone hose kit for £50, just waiting for it to be delivered and will then swap it out. About the same mileage as mine.
Its just been to the South of France on holiday. My mate had to fly down this year due to a family issue, and it's the only car I have with a towbar to move a speedboat around.
Came back fully loaded, seats down, a layer of wine, circumnavigated around Paris back up to Calais.
Faultless as ever. Quite a reasonable set of averages for a 15 Year old car.
