Hi,
I’ve come across a review for the 2017 6series GT 3.0d AWD.
What is people opinions? Reliability, running costs and space is what I’m most interested about.
Will do roughly 18k miles pa on motorways. Need to carry 2 bikes (no wheels off) in the boot.
Does the 6 GT do anything better than an equivalent 5 series estate?

I really liked the 630D GT we test drove; it was a great car; but much preferred the F11 530D we test drove as well...
The GTs are lovely; but for me, the touring is a lot better/more versatile and the load space is much better also.
The N57 is a solid engine; just ensure whichever car you look at has been well serviced/maintained and with paperwork to show; not just the iDrive updates etc

Its basically a 5 series estate with an uglier and less practical body so will fair no better or worse than any other BMW reallyI’ve come across a review for the 2017 6series GT 3.0d AWD.

But same principle applies and as you said; it's the 5'er touring with a less practical load space. The touring, is a better option IMO

Agree; that's why I was considering one. But TBH, I'd have gone back to a 7'er, but really wanted the touring capabilities, so that's what I stuck withdema said:

Hoping you mean with the seats down? Both will do it, but the 6GT will have more height for the front wheel, I seem to remember load space being longer than the 5 touring, overall total load space is bigger. My bikes (62cm frame) wouldn't fit unless the front wheel is at an angle. If taking two, they tended to go on the rear rack.Need to carry 2 bikes (no wheels off) in the boot.

6 has more cabin space as based on the 7 platform. It's a nicer place to sit, it's looks are a bit of an acquired taste though.

The G32 6 GT is the same platform as the g30/31 5 series.The old 5 series GT was based on the F01 7 series
The giveaway is the 6GT has the 5 series dash etc and the old 5 GT used the 7 series dash
G11, G30, G33 are all based on the platform.
The G32 6 series GT has the same length floor plan as the G11 7 series. There is a lot more legroom in the back of the 6 series over the 5, even I could sit behind myself at 6' 5" tall, I cannot do that in a G30 as the roof also slopes off roo much.

If its like the 5GT you also sit higher up than the touring which gives a better driving position, and the rear is a far more comfortable, luxurious, and practical place to sit.... reclinable seats and masses more legroom see to that... many have the merino leather also and panny roof is standard.

The 5 series estate seems to command a higher price tag, guessing as it is more popular. I think I would only be able to go for a 520 with a decent mileage and similar age to the 6.
If the drive is similar, the 6 could have the edge as I would be able to get the better engine

We had one of these when they were 5GTs. I don't think they handle as well as a 5 Touring . They are heavy, and more top-heavy than a Touring. They work well as comfortable long distance cars though. When I was looking. I could get a 630D GT with a superb spec and a great price. The same/similar spec 530D touring were always a few £k more than I wanted to pay...
This is the F series however. But think it's the same across...
Been looking into these and they seem to be a bit more special than most people would think.
They ride on the 7-series architecture, meaning they get air ride an both axles (G31 5er only gest air in the rear in the touring version). It is also a bit wider than the 5 leading to a loftier interieur. Yu also sit a bit higher improving visibility. Rear legroom and comfort are clearly above the 5 and perhaps even better than a regular wheelbase 7er. Boot practicality is clearly better than the 5er and 7er sedan and may come close to the touring.
The whole underbody of thecar has been coated with materials to improve NWH (including vibration dampers an d the likes). Undercar aero was also given more attention for the sake of improving NVH. It looks like BMW really strived to make this a GrandTourer, and paid special attention to comfort.
The more I look into these the more I think this may be some sort of spiritual succesor to the quirky Citroens (comfort driven, quirky styling). However the 6er GT has perfect weight distribution and balance, great drivetrain options, can be equipped with 4 wheel steering, active sway bars, has good build quality.
Some of the pictures really bring out the odd rear end, however a lot are shot from down low or parallel to the cars height, however in real life you mostly look at cars from a higher up perspective which in this case makes the rear end look a bit more palatable then its whale like predecesor (5 GT).
