BMW EGR Cooler Recall 5 Series X Drive Diesel
Discussion
Received a warning letter through the post on Saturday about the future EGR Cooler replaced FOC by BMW recall being planned sometime in the future. Had the software update done last November, this letter now states certain control warnings to be aware of. One of which is low coolant level which my car has flagged up at least 3 times. Contacted my local dealer and have got the car booked in for the 18th of August, however the same dealer replaced the EGR cooler part in Feb 22 at a cost to me of over £450, when I queried what happens to the money I paid for a replacement part that they knew about and would likely be recalled, the service lady on the phone said I would have to take it up with the service manager at the dealership? I think we can all guess how this is going to turn out.......................................
It will turn out fine.
Just give your Service Advisor a copy of the invoice on the day of the booking and politely ask that they submit this to BMW UK for goodwill consideration.
Under the circumstances of the current and ongoing EGR campaign, this will almost certainly be paid for you (assuming you mean EGR Cooler and not EGR valve which would not be covered as not related to the recall).

Got my car back last week, EGR cooler was replaced with exactly the same OEM part that the car was built with, whilst BMW sort the upgraded version to fit to all cars affected by the recall. How long has this been going on now is anyone's guess. My wife drives a 220d Sports Tourer and that is also under the same EGR Cooler recall as mine.
As stated before in the thread the £450 I spent on the replacement EGR valve is in no way related to the EGR cooler problems BMW have experienced, well that's according to the service manager...........................................
