e70 X5 only warm air through face vents - unless AC is on
Discussion
Hi everyone - I have recently purchase a 2009 BMW X5 and i notice that i only get warm air through the vents (even if i have the temp set to low and blowing full to face vents with no heat selected to blow anywhere (not to face, body or feet)
Doesn't matter if I have recirculation set to on/off/auto
However, when I put the AC on it blows nice and cold as it should - But i don't want to needlessly run the AC all the time.
Anyone have any ideas?

Running the aircon all the time isn't needless. It's best for the system as it keeps it fresh and the seals doing their job etcDoesn't matter if I have recirculation set to on/off/auto

Keep it on all the time
Re the settings. Have you gone through the iDrive settings to see what they're set to?
As above, those vents are covered in the idrive. It's climate control rather than aircon, stick it on auto and leave it alone. Sods law it will not work when it gets very warm!
It's more likely to go wrong, a new airconditioning pump, depending on the model/brand of replacement, could be close to 1k installed, then there's the dryer, sensors etc. You cannot do much about a stone/leak in the condenser, but they are £400/500

I never had the temperature wheel in my E70 or E60 either. The iDrive settings for attempting to change the temp on the middle vents never seem to work as well or as easy as the old style temp wheel, glad it's made a comeback in my F11! As others have said just leave the climate AC on as designed, i think the only reason to turn it off is if you live in the arctic.
