This may have been discussed before but I couldn’t find a thread. I recently purchased a 2019 Z4 sdrive 2.0i. It has a wireless phone charger in it, but when I tried to use this morning with my iPhone 12 Pro Max, it wasn’t charging. I took the case off too and still didn’t work. I spoke to the sales rep I brought it from who said it should work. Am I missing something obvious? Does it need to be turned on to work?

It should work as it is, unless it's been unplugged. Are you sure it's got the wireless charging option though?

There should be a blue light that illuminates when you put the phone on the pad - is this coming on?

I was told it did, but maybe it doesn’t actually have it. It has the phone image on the pad which made me think it’s installed. No blue light comes on though when phone placed on it

Does it have a little battery charging symbol in the middle of the phone and a cutout for an LED? If not, then it just has an NFC receiver there.

What that NFC receiver is for I have no idea.

Can you take a picture of it? Could it be that you only have the NFC reader?

Currently at work but will check later. I think you’re right though, it’s probably just the nfc reader. A little annoying as the salesman told me it was a wireless phone charger! Tempted to see if I can get them to install it for free 😂

Thank you for that. Yeah mine definitely was not doing that this morning so I think it’s just the NFC reader. Thanks for clarifying

So just checked and it doesn’t have the battery sign in the middle of the logo and no LED light I can see either so I’m guessing just and NFC reader - what is this even for? I can’t post the image sadly as new to the forum so it won’t let me

I think some of these came with digital key functionality (including a little credit card type 'key' like you got in a Tesla) so might be linked to that?

The ones with wireless charging also give you a warning when you switch the car off that there's a phone in the charging tray, so I don't know whether having NFC there also enables it to detect a phone and prompt that.
