used x5 30d - mild hybrid or not?
Discussion
I'm looking at a used but latest gen x5, which seems to have got the mild hybrid tech in about 2020. It seems to add a little to the mpg figures - although in the real world, who knows? - and a bit to the power. But it'll add to the price because it'll count out anything older than a couple of years. Just wondering if anyone has experience to compare the two. Is it worth paying more? Cheers.
We ve just changed from a normal 30d, 66 plate X4 in to a 71 plate X3 30d mild hybrid.
MRS400's normal commute to work was getting 34/36mpg in the X4,mother-in-law lives 135 miles away and best we ve seen was 42 ish at 70mph on cruise.
X3 work commute 42 at the minute and we ve just run down from Derbyshire to Looe with a stop off in Weston-super-Mare and it's saying 53mpg. Again at 70 on cruise.
I know it's not the vehicle your asking about but that's my experience with the mild hybrid.
X5 will be heavier of course

I really like the MHT 30d engine, I found it really helps the MPG round town I can get 45-50mpg on my trip to the gym or down to the shops, the 11hp motor doesn't seem like a lot but it's always there filling in making the step off nice and smooth. I have found that it doesn't make a huge difference on long runs those tend to be 50-55mpg unless in eco pro mode, this is in a 730d.

Thanks all. Sounds like all things being equal (in other words, if I can afford the newer car) it's worth going for. Have a good weekend, people.
We had a budget creep to be fair, I'd of loved an X5 but the 3 was just enough and I'm really happy with it, it's quick enough and really good to drive and not tiring at all, the journey down here felt like a pop to the shops. cossy400 said:

These have different engines, so much of the difference is probably because of that. The newer 3 litre diesel is, even without the mild hybrid system, noticeably more fuel efficient than the previous one.Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
