I've 'accidentally' bought a Z4...
Discussion
......what are they like?
This is the car.
It's a
2019 BMW Z4 SERIES Z4 SDRIVE20I M SPORT.
It's done 28,000 miles.
I've owned my 964 targa for almost a decade and I've been toying with the idea of selling it later this year.
However, we're presently down in Devon to attend a wedding and there's a BMW dealership just up the road from where we're staying.
As the wedding's not until later this afternoon I thought I'd pop in to see if a Z4 fitted. One thing led to another and I ended up buying it.
What terrible mistakes have I made with this rash decision? What kind of idiot am I to 'just' go for the teeny, 2 litre engine?
Or, am I a car buyer of rare genius and perspicacity?
Thank you for you hints, tips, criticism and contempt.

I spent some time in one of these a couple of years ago - admittedly the 30 (?) version, which has the same engine I think but a bit more power than yours I think.
I really loved it. I've got an old Boxster and am seriously thinking about changing it for a Z4.
We did a roadtrip to Scotland then part of the NC500. Nice on motorways and fun with the roof down on the Scottish roads.
I think they are good cars, be interesting to hear how you get on with it.

They threw in free delivery. 350 miles and seven hours (plus traffic) from Plymouth to Suffolk).
Hopefully, it will turn up tomorrow.

Looks good OP.
I’ve cine to really like this era Z4. I think they look better in the flesh than they do in pictures and they’re pretty rare too.
I've always liked them from afar. I’ve cine to really like this era Z4. I think they look better in the flesh than they do in pictures and they’re pretty rare too.
I have no buyer's remorse so far.
Now, who wants to buy an old Porsche....?
Not sure my wife allows me to be as accident prone as yourself.
I had a lovely 1990 964 C4 in Guards red - 15-20 years ago now. I bought it from a Belgian customer - iirc it was 15k when a RHD one was a lot more. I had it 5 years and had no trouble with it - the later water cooled ones were sort of better but not preferable imo.
The Z4 looks about 12 feet long and 8 feet wide. Very odd looking.

Great cars! We love ours.
The power should be fine - they're not out and out performance cars - but those engines remap really well, so you should be able to get it up to the same power as the 30i variant.

My Sytner mate sees quite a few remapped 2.0i BMW's that have broken quite comically. I'll try and find the photo of the one with the piston in the sump.

Maybe not then!
Though i do think people push the remapping too far. They're "capable" of 300BHP apparently, but i wouldnt want to take one anywhere near that.
I'd a 2018 Cooper S with the same engine and i had it modded to around 240BHP from the 184BHP standard. It went really well and i dont think it stressed it too much overall.
That said, i guess if someone really wants the bigger power then is maybe a consideration before buying rather than after.
We ran an E89 20i for three years and enjoyed it for what it was, rather than attempted any power uplifts.
