The 330i is petrol, straight six...
The diesel equivalent will be the 335, also straight six - M57
Depends; why are you looking to move from a petrol to diesel
And why the E92?
330d was available too...The diesel equivalent will be the 335, also straight six - M57

You will be replacing a 17 year old car with another 17 year old car. Most people would at least buy something newer or lower mileage.
They are at the age where things start to go wrong due to age. E.g. My E91 330i yesterday decided that it's time that one of the rear window regulators would fail while putting up the window on the IOW car ferry so I have had to push the window up and use gaffa tape to keep it shut until I can fix it. Earlier this year the windscreen washer pump failed and I have also replaced the rear shocks, headlight washers no longer work, etc, etc. It's only on 89k
A 17 year old focus will be cheaper to run and maintain than a BMW, but if you are happy with potentially fixing it, crack on

Hmm i just fancy a change
Do your research first; suss out what the usual issues are (there's plenty re the N52 and N53 engines too, if it's the 330i you're looking at); if not then then M57 engined 330D is still a great engine, but can still have issuesThe E9x range also likes to have electrical niggles, just like the E61 range (the big brother); so ensure that the car works fully...
Unless you're handy with spanners / have a great indy mechanic I'd look into this more (a lot more) before you make the jump!
And we still need to suss out if it's a 330i or 330D you're looking at?!
I think you'll be in for a shock at the BMW tax on most parts and especially finding replacement M-Sport trims etc is just eye watering.
These cars are now filtering down to the cheaper end of the market and they require a lot of maintenance and TLC - if they've not been given it then there's a whole world of pain.
